In revenue management, decisions must be made daily to ensure the best possible occupancy and price control for a hotel. This includes, in particular, decisions regarding the placement of groups. Incoming enquiries from groups should always be analysed to determine the total revenue generated by the group and whether this compensates for the often higher rates of individual bookings. The length of stay and arrival and departure dates play a major role in these decisions, alongside the advance booking status and forecast values. It is important to make a tactical assessment of whether it makes sense to accept or reject a group in order to achieve the best possible result. This analysis is called displacement analysis.
